Marketing Interview Prep · Portfolio-Led
Compress prep into 'company's current marketing problem + my 3 cases + 3 data-led questions' — 30 minutes to a ready brief.
Pain addressed · Marketing candidates show up with 'I ran campaign X' — but the interviewer is actually asking 'can you fix our current funnel?' Wrong frame, wrong prep.
Marketing Interview Prep · Portfolio-Led
You are my marketing interview prep partner. I'm applying for {position_level} (performance / brand / growth / content). Build a portfolio-led brief.
# Company + role
- Company + business + stage: {company_stage}
- Position + JD: {position_jd}
- Interviewer + role: {interviewer_info}
- Recent news (funding / launches / marketing moves): {recent_news}
# My relevant work (3-5 campaigns, one line each)
{my_marketing_work}
# Output four sections
## 1. The company's current marketing problem (120 words)
Inference from stage + JD + news. e.g. Series B hiring perf lead = burned through brand budget, now needs ROI. Cite sources.
## 2. What your interviewer probably asks (3, 50 words each)
- One channel/metric question (CAC / payback / LTV)
- One case question (highest-ROI campaign you ran)
- One trade-off question (no budget — how do you choose?)
## 3. Your 3 cases to bring (100 words each)
Pick 3 from your work. Each must include: spend, KPI start→end, your specific actions, one lesson (failure OK). Note which interviewer question it answers.
## 4. Your 3 data-led reverse questions (30 words each)
- One about the funnel (weakest stage)
- One about the team (founder-driven vs data-driven decisions)
- One about 90 days (specific success metric)
# Boundaries
- No "I'm passionate" filler — numbers + cases.
- Reverse questions should signal you're already doing their marketing math.Open directly on your favourite AI

Workflow · 5 steps
- 1
T-24h: dump JD, recent company news (especially marketing moves), and the interviewer's LinkedIn.
- 2
Run in Claude or ChatGPT and fill the five placeholders.
- 3
Section 1 is the leverage point — push the model for a specific channel + metric if the answer is vague.
- 4
Back-fill real numbers in your 3 cases (spend, CTR, CAC). Don't walk in with placeholders.
- 5
Read the brief 30 minutes before. Jot the 3 reverse questions on a sticky note.
Verify before you ship
AI's "almost right" is the #1 pain. Tick these off so reviewers can't find the obvious holes. (Checkbox state stays local — we don't track it.)
Why this prompt works
This prompt isn't a generic “write me a Interview & 1:1 Prep”. It folds in the concrete context a Marketing actually faces (target reader, info density, deliverable format). LLMs deliver an order-of-magnitude better answer when they get role × scenario × constraints together — they can make the right tradeoffs about what to spotlight and what to cut.
When to use
Best moment: you know roughly that you need to do a Interview & 1:1 Prep, but you're stuck on “how do I even ask the AI?” Muscle memory has no template. Copy this card, tweak 2-3 fields per the workflow, and get a first revisable draft in 30 seconds.
Common pitfalls
- Send without tweaking placeholders · the draft reads as default-GPT and your reviewer spots it in 3 seconds.
- Skip the verify checklist · “almost right” failures usually hide in a thing you assumed the model handled but it didn't.
- Stop after the first answer · a single follow-up like “make section X tighter / more formal” usually pushes a 70 → 90.
Variants & extensions
Want to use this card more aggressively? Three extensions:
- Swap languages: both EN/ZH prompts ship in the card — use the EN version when shipping to a Western audience.
- Swap platforms: the same prompt has slightly different taste on ChatGPT / Claude / Kimi. The recommended-platform pill marks the best fit.
- Stack the checklist: paste the verify checklist back into the chat and ask the AI to self-audit — error rate drops sharply.
