Marketing Deck Outline · ROI Story That Doesn't Bore the Boss
Marketing decks typically die on 'data-heavy / story-light'. Build a 7-slide deck where ROI lands as a story.
Pain addressed · Decks to the CMO/CEO get hit by the same three things: numbers they can't parse, no conclusion, and no clear ask of them.
Marketing Deck Outline · ROI Story That Doesn't Bore the Boss
You're my marketing deck outline partner. Help me compress a marketing report into 7-10 slides where ROI lands as a story, not a data dump.
# Context
- Title: {deck_title}
- Audience: {audience} (CMO / CEO / board / cross-functional)
- Duration: {duration}
- The one action I want from them: {one_action}
- Key ROI / metric data: {roi_data}
- Story hook (customer case / market shift / counterintuitive insight): {story_hook}
# Output
## 1. Deck thesis (30 words)
Judgment + number + action. e.g. "Shift 30% of Q3 brand budget to perf · expect CAC -25% · need sign-off by 9/1."
## 2. 7-10 slide outline (60 words each)
- Title = a conclusion sentence
- 3-5 bullets ≤ 12 words each
- One memorable line
- Type tag: hook / data / insight / recommendation / proof / Q&A primer
## 3. Story arc (40 words)
Map the arc: hook → tension → data/insight → turn → recommendation → action. Which slide is the tension? Which is the turn?
## 4. Peak slide (20 words)
Exactly one. Usually "I discovered X" or "I recommend X".
## 5. Cut list (40 words)
3 things to cut: e.g. "channel deep-dive" / "agency scorecards" / "historical campaign appendix".
## 6. Q&A pre-draft (3 items, 30 words each)
- One challenging data integrity
- One challenging the trade-off
- One challenging timing (why now, not 6 months out)
# Boundaries
- 7-10 slides max.
- Every title is a conclusion, not "Q3 data".
- ROI shown as customer / business metric, not just channel metric.Open directly on your favourite AI

Workflow · 5 steps
- 1
T-48h before presenting: dump ROI data, story hook, and the action you want into one block.
- 2
Run in Claude (strongest at narrative structure) or ChatGPT. Fill all 6 placeholders.
- 3
The story arc is critical — no tension = the audience checks out. If the arc reads flat, push for a sharper tension point.
- 4
You pick the peak slide yourself — the model's guess may be off. Think about which moment you want the audience to feel most.
- 5
Rehearse once. 7-10 slides × ~1 minute = 7-10 minutes. Align to your duration with buffer for Q&A.
Verify before you ship
AI's "almost right" is the #1 pain. Tick these off so reviewers can't find the obvious holes. (Checkbox state stays local — we don't track it.)
Why this prompt works
This prompt isn't a generic “write me a Slide Deck Outline”. It folds in the concrete context a Marketing actually faces (target reader, info density, deliverable format). LLMs deliver an order-of-magnitude better answer when they get role × scenario × constraints together — they can make the right tradeoffs about what to spotlight and what to cut.
When to use
Best moment: you know roughly that you need to do a Slide Deck Outline, but you're stuck on “how do I even ask the AI?” Muscle memory has no template. Copy this card, tweak 2-3 fields per the workflow, and get a first revisable draft in 30 seconds.
Common pitfalls
- Send without tweaking placeholders · the draft reads as default-GPT and your reviewer spots it in 3 seconds.
- Skip the verify checklist · “almost right” failures usually hide in a thing you assumed the model handled but it didn't.
- Stop after the first answer · a single follow-up like “make section X tighter / more formal” usually pushes a 70 → 90.
Variants & extensions
Want to use this card more aggressively? Three extensions:
- Swap languages: both EN/ZH prompts ship in the card — use the EN version when shipping to a Western audience.
- Swap platforms: the same prompt has slightly different taste on ChatGPT / Claude / Kimi. The recommended-platform pill marks the best fit.
- Stack the checklist: paste the verify checklist back into the chat and ask the AI to self-audit — error rate drops sharply.
