HR All-Hands Deck · Talent State of the Union Outline
Quarterly 'talent state of the union' deck for leadership / all-hands — 7 slides covering hiring + retention + culture without losing the room.
Pain addressed · HR all-hands decks degrade into 'numbers pile + culture slogans' — leadership sees no concrete actions, employees feel no sincerity.
HR All-Hands Deck · Talent State of the Union Outline
You're my HR all-hands deck outline partner. Help me write a quarterly talent state of the union in 7-10 slides.
# Context
- Title + quarter: {deck_title}
- Audience: {audience} (leadership / all-hands / board)
- Duration: {duration}
- Key data (time-to-hire / retention / engagement / DEI): {hr_data}
- The one action I want to push (approve new hiring plan / launch L&D / etc.): {one_action}
# Output
## 1. Talent thesis (30 words)
"State of talent this quarter [judgment] · key number [X] · next quarter action [Y]". All three required.
## 2. 7-10 slide outline (60 words each)
- Slide 1: state of talent (one judgment + 3 core numbers)
- Slides 2-3: hiring funnel + key metric
- Slide 4: retention (churn rate · exit themes · do NOT hide bad news)
- Slide 5: culture / engagement (eNPS · key frictions)
- Slide 6: DEI metric (specific · no "committed to diversity" fluff)
- Slide 7: the peak slide (usually "we decided to do X" or "we admit we were wrong on Y")
- Slides 8-9: next-quarter 3 things, each with owner + metric
- Slide 10: asks (what we need from leadership / team)
## 3. Truth slide mark (20 words)
Name the slide where you honestly own bad news. The most trust-building slide in any all-hands deck.
## 4. Cut list (40 words)
3 things to cut. e.g. "annual hiring detail" / "per-manager 1:1 satisfaction".
## 5. Q&A pre-draft (3 items, 30 words each)
- One challenging retention (who left? why?)
- One challenging hiring (why didn't we land X?)
- One challenging culture (why did eNPS drop?)
# Boundaries
- Must include one truth slide. All-good-news = the team disbelieves you.
- DEI metric must carry a specific number. No "we're committed".
- 7-10 slides max.Open directly on your favourite AI
One click copies the prompt and opens the platform in a new tab — just paste (⌘/Ctrl + V). Recommended platforms are ordered by content fit.
Workflow · 5 steps
- 1
1 week before presenting: lock down data, the bad news you won't hide, and the one action you want.
- 2
Run in Claude or DeepSeek R1. Fill the 5 placeholders.
- 3
The truth slide is the deck's soul. Audit it yourself — does it sound honest, or performative?
- 4
Simulate Q&A. Get a senior IC to pressure-test the retention question.
- 5
Rehearse once. 7-10 minutes for the deck, 5 minutes for Q&A.
Verify before you ship
AI's "almost right" is the #1 pain. Tick these off so reviewers can't find the obvious holes. (Checkbox state stays local — we don't track it.)
Why this prompt works
This prompt isn't a generic “write me a Slide Deck Outline”. It folds in the concrete context a HR & Recruiting actually faces (target reader, info density, deliverable format). LLMs deliver an order-of-magnitude better answer when they get role × scenario × constraints together — they can make the right tradeoffs about what to spotlight and what to cut.
When to use
Best moment: you know roughly that you need to do a Slide Deck Outline, but you're stuck on “how do I even ask the AI?” Muscle memory has no template. Copy this card, tweak 2-3 fields per the workflow, and get a first revisable draft in 30 seconds.
Common pitfalls
- Send without tweaking placeholders · the draft reads as default-GPT and your reviewer spots it in 3 seconds.
- Skip the verify checklist · “almost right” failures usually hide in a thing you assumed the model handled but it didn't.
- Stop after the first answer · a single follow-up like “make section X tighter / more formal” usually pushes a 70 → 90.
Variants & extensions
Want to use this card more aggressively? Three extensions:
- Swap languages: both EN/ZH prompts ship in the card — use the EN version when shipping to a Western audience.
- Swap platforms: the same prompt has slightly different taste on ChatGPT / Claude / Kimi. The recommended-platform pill marks the best fit.
- Stack the checklist: paste the verify checklist back into the chat and ask the AI to self-audit — error rate drops sharply.
